Meet the Mac behind JakeBot.

JakeBot answers questions about the public information on this website. It uses the open-weight Qwen3.5 27B model, running locally through Ollama on Jake’s Mac mini. It is an AI, can make mistakes, and does not speak for Jake.

The suggested question buttons use fixed, reviewed replies from this site and do not run the model. Questions you type are sent to the local model.

A small computer, a few house rules

No account or sign-in is required. You can ask 3 typed questions per 10 minutes and 20 per UTC day. The suggested conversation starters use fixed replies and do not count toward these limits. People sharing a network also share the typed-question limits. Everyone shares a site-wide limit of 20 typed questions per hour and 100 per UTC day. The Mac answers one question at a time, with room for two active requests. These limits protect capacity but cannot guarantee every visitor a turn.

Keep questions under 500 characters. Replies are brief. Each question stands alone; previous messages are not sent to the model. When the Mac is asleep, offline, or busy, live replies may be unavailable. The website’s other content stays available.

The model unloads from memory after 10 minutes without a request. A visible visit can ask the Mac to load it early, subject to a shared limit of 12 warmups per UTC day and at least 10 minutes between warmups. If it is still unloaded when you ask, the first reply may take longer. The Mac connects outward to the site; the site does not open an inbound connection to the Mac.

When enabled, Cloudflare Turnstile checks each chat submission for automated abuse. Most visitors pass without an extra step; a suspicious request may need a brief interaction. The server verifies each token with Cloudflare before queueing the question. This check uses Cloudflare’s service and privacy terms.

What happens to a question

Your question passes through this website’s hosted server to a temporary queue, then to Jake’s Mac for inference. Only an approved copy of public website facts is provided to the model. It cannot browse Jake’s documents, read Messages, run commands, send messages, or use tools.

The queue clears question text when a reply finishes. Unfinished questions expire after a short wait, and are cleared on the next cleanup cycle. Answers expire after 10 minutes and are cleared on cleanup. A short-lived, secure browser cookie keeps your answer tied to your browser. The server stores pseudonymous hashes of that session and your network address, plus timestamps, channel, and request status for rate limiting for up to 48 hours, then removes them on cleanup. It does not store your raw network address or email in the queue. Cleanup runs while the Mac worker is connected or new questions are accepted; deletion can be delayed while the service is offline. Hosting providers may retain their own operational logs.

Site usage counts

The site counts page views, chat attempts, and questions accepted into the Mac’s queue by UTC day. It also estimates how many distinct networks visited or tried the chat that day. To avoid counting one network repeatedly, it stores a day-specific hash of the network. These hashes are cleared after 30 days when the next visit or chat attempt runs; cleanup can be delayed while the site is idle. The daily totals remain after those hashes are deleted. These counts do not include your question text. A shared network may count several people as one, so the visitor number is only an estimate.
